Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas has reduced the school fees for the Taraba State University by 50 Per cent.

Daily Report Nigeria reports that Kefa’s move is aimed at easing the negative effect of fuel subsidy removal on students.

He gave the order during an unscheduled visit to the Taraba State University to investigate the condition of the facility.

According to him, the decision was urgent because some students were unable to pay their tuition due to the termination of subsidies.

He said:

I am committed to free education at the primary and secondary school levels.

“Some parents said the hardship occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy has made payments of school fees difficult. They said the slash has raised their hopes.”

The Governor found that fifty-three courses offered at the institution were not accredited, tuition had risen, and dormitory conditions were poor.

When he met with the university’s leadership, he asked for a report on why some graduates are not choosing National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) or law school.
