The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has announced dates for its 2023 elective convention.
DAILY REPORT NIGERIA reports that the apex Ijaw youth group reaffirmed July 18 and 19 as dates for the convention and elections.
This was contained in a statement by the IYC Secretary-General, Comrade Frank Pukon, which also announced the postponement of a pre-selective convention in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.
According to the statement, the convention will hold on Tuesday 18 while the elections will take place on Wednesday 19 in Obuama community, Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State.

“It is hereby announced for the information of the general public, particularly Ijaw youths, that with the interference of the Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, and leadership of Ijaw National Congress (INC), the 8th NEC is calling off the pre-elective convention that ought to be held in Ijaw house today.
“We wish to further inform everyone that all issues will be resolved at the elective convention, which will be held on the 18th and 19th of July 2023, at OBUAMA COMMUNITY IN DEGEMA LGA, EASTERN ZONE.
“Hence, we sincerely apologise to all and, the convenience this may have caused.
“Furthermore, we appreciate everyone’s maturity and sacrifice during this process. As you are aware there is no sacrifice bigger than the unity and oneness of Ijaw nation.
“And; indeed, we must continue to be sacrificial and be united for the sake of the unity, peace, stability and the development of Ijaw nation.”
