Street sweepers on Monday, December 7, blocked the entrance of the Imo State Government House in Owerri, as they protested over their unpaid salary arrears.

The protesting women, who insisted on seeing the Governor, Hope Uzodinma, lamented that they had not been paid since he took power on January 15.

The leader of the women, who identified herself as Charity, said that all entreaties made to make their demands met proved futile.

Charity bemoaned the Government for not being compassionate on them despite the risk involved in the sweeping job.

She revealed that while most of most of her colleagues are poor, some are widows who depended on the stipends they receive as salaries to cater for their needs and take care of home.

Senior Special Assistant on Print Media to the Governor, Modestus Nwamkpa, however said that the Government was looking into the book as he assured that all grievances would be resolved.
