On Sunday, Elon Musk announced his intention to change the bird icon of the Twitter micro-blogging site to the letter X.

Checks revealed Musk’s move will be the latest in a series of controversial social media reforms under his leadership since he bought the social media platform for $44 billion last October.

In a tweet, Musk said the change will be made on Monday to replace the Blue Bird logo with an X logo.

He said:

And soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds.”

Musk previously changed the company’s official name in April to X Holdings Corp, after his business X.com, to reflect his vision of creating “X,” an all-in-one app that implements payment and social media functions similar to China’s WeChat.

Linda Yaccarino, CEO of Twitter, also confirmed the launch of Brand X on Sunday.

Yaccarino said:

It is an exceptionally rare thing – in life or business – that you get a second chance to make another big impression. Twitter made one massive impression and changed the way we communicate. Now, X will go further, transforming the global town square.”

She said that the new focus will be on “audio, video, messaging, payments/banking, global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities.”

Despite laying off half of the company’s employees following the acquisition, Musk revealed that the site remained cash-negative with debt piled high after losing half of its advertising revenue.
