Justice Centus Nweze, a justice of the Supreme Court has reportedly died at the age of 64 after a brief illness.
Nweze’s death was confirmed by Festus Akande, the spokesperson of the Supreme Court.
Checks revealed that with his untimely demise, the South-East region of Nigeria now lacked representation in the Supreme Court.
The Justice, who hailed from Obollo in Udenu LGA, Enugu, was born on September 25, 1958.

He was a devout Roman Catholic and was married to Justice Ugonne Jacinta Nweze.
Throughout his career, he achieved notable accomplishments, including representing Nigerian law faculties at the prestigious Phillip Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition in Washington DC.
Upon his graduation in 1983, he proceeded to the Nigeria Law School from 1983 to 1984, where he obtained the qualifying Certificate, BL.
He then completed his NYSC between 1984 and 1985 in Bauchi.
Thereafter, he returned to the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, between 1993 and 1995, where he studied for and obtained the Master of Laws Certificate LL M.
Between 1997 and 2001, he pursued his doctorate at the same university.
Having practiced at the Bar from 1985 to 1995, he was elevated to the high court Bench of Enugu State in November 1995.

While on the Bench, he served as chairman of the second robbery and firearms tribunal, Enugu, 1996 to 1998; chairman of the robbery and firearms tribunal, Nsukka, 1998 to 1999; member of the Ondo LG election petition tribunal, 1999; chairman of the Ogun governorship and legislative election petition tribunal, 1999; and administrative judge at the Nsukka Judicial Division, Enugu in 2001.
Nweze’s illustrious career in the Nigerian judiciary began with his appointment to the Court of Appeal on February 15, 2008.
According to reports, he diligently served in this capacity until October 2014, when he was elevated to the esteemed position of Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria on October 29, 2014.
Throughout his tenure on the Bench of the Supreme Court, which spanned from October 2014 until his demise, the late Nweze consistently displayed a deep commitment to upholding the principles of justice and fairness.
It was learnt that his dedication to the law was not limited to his judicial duties, as he also actively participated in various extrajudicial vocational activities.
