The Organized Labour is set to suspend its intended nationwide strike.

Daily Report Nigeria reports that members of labour unions on Wednesday commenced a nationwide protest against the removal of fuel subsidy.

According to the Nigerian government, the Nigeria Labour Congress as well as the Trade Union Congress will suspend the planned industrial action.

The Presidency noted that the decision to suspend the strike was reached on Wednesday evening at the end of a meeting between the NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, TUC President, Festus Usifo, and President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja.

“Consequent upon the fruitful and frank discussion with President Tinubu and their confidence in his ability to encourage open and honest consideration of all the issues put forward by the Labour Movement, the Labour leaders resolved to stop further protest,” the statement read in part.

The statement titled ‘Labour Unions to suspend further protest after a fruitful meeting with President Tinubu’ added that Labour “opted for further constructive engagement with the government to resolve all outstanding issues as they affect the working people and Nigerians in general.”

At the end of the meeting, the labour leaders told newsmen that President Tinubu revealed deeper details of his government’s intervention plans to alleviate economic hardship brought about by fuel subsidy removal.

According to NLC president, Joe Ajaero, labour will announced its decision after a meeting between the various National Executive Councils.

“We met with him. The issues we discussed are the same issues that led to the protest today.

“But we have gone deeper into them. The broadcast has broader issues, but there are one or two things that need immediate attention,” Ajaero said.

Part of details revealed by Tinubu include the reconstitution of the National Steering Committee for Palliatives, distribution of CNG- powered vehicles for mass transit, as well a reviewed wage award to workers.

Wednesday’s meeting was the sixth round of discussions between organised labour and the Federal Government at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.
