Aspirants for the coveted councillorship position to represent Obotebe Ward 17 in the Burutu legislative arm have vehemently denied the claims by the Delta South PDP Chairman, Hon Julius Takeme that there was primary elections that produced Hon Spencer Takeme as flag bearer of the party.

Chief Julius Takame had in a report by The Liberator claimed that Hon Spencer Takeme, his younger brother was unanimously elected to be flag bearer of Obotebe Ward 17 for the PDP, at the forthcoming Local Government Council elections in the state.

Chief Takeme stated that Spencer’s emergence ‘was a consensus among the approved party leaders in the ward from the state,’ following a nomination by Francis Amawei for the incumbent Councillor to continue for a second term.

He also claimed that only Hon Amafini Akemotubo objected the selection of Spencer for a second term, saying the former Ward 17 Councillor rejected every attempt by him to sought for the selection of other aspirants.

However, Hon Amafini in the same report by The Liberator denied the claims of Chief Takeme, stating that the Delta South PDP Chairman singularly imposed his younger sibling on other aspirants as well as the people of Obotebe.

While demanding that Hon Spencer should be discouraged from seeking a second term for obvious reasons of misrepresentation, Amafini declared that there was no election or a selection process that produced Hon Spencer.

The Aide to Deputy Governor further stated that the petition written to the party’s leadership in Delta state, seeking to sanction Chief Takeme ‘is in order as they were not given the chance to speak for themselves on the matter.’

“Obotebe needs to put her political house together ahead of 2023, adding that returning Spencer will only portend ceaseless rebellion within ward 17,” Amafini said.

Meanwhile, other aspirants who contested against Hon Spencer Takeme have affirmed to Daily Report Nigeria that there was no election, neither a selection process that resulted in his emergence to represent the Ward for a second term.

The aspirants; Timi Bougha, Andawei Okou, Christopher Bebenaghan and Samisco Okpe declared that the Delta South PDP Chairman, Chief Julius Takeme unilaterally imposed his kid brother, Spencer Takeme as flag bearer of the party without a proper process and against the wish of other aspirants.

They vowed that they will not rest until Chief Takeme reverses the decision to impose his brother on them.

While they are not stopping Hon Spencer from contesting the elections, the quartet demanded that a free and fair process should be allowed to produce the Party’s flag bearer of Ward 17.

The Local Government Elections to be conducted by the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission, DSIEC is slated for March 6, 2021.
