Lagos to Ban Nightclubs

The Lagos State government, through its Safety Commission, says it will ban nightclubs in the state regarding the use of drugs and firearms within their premises.

The Director-General of the Commission, Lanre Mojola stated that the state government maintained a zero-tolerance policy towards the use of drugs and firearms in nightclubs.

According to Mojola, the commission will work in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to address the issue.

During a meeting with nightclub owners in Lagos, Mojola also highlighted the distressing presence of underage individuals in many nightclubs, which was against the law.

The commission urged nightclub owners to strictly enforce age restrictions and ensure that only individuals of legal drinking age were allowed entry.

It warned that failure to comply with the requirement might result in severe penalties and possible closure of the establishment.

The Safety Commission further encouraged nightclub owners to implement stringent security measures to prevent the entry of drugs and firearms into their premises.

The commission advised thorough bag checks, the use of metal detectors, and the presence of trained security personnel.

The commission also advises nightclub owners to collaborate with law enforcement agencies to conduct regular inspections and raids to deter illegal activities.
