Nigeria Football Federation president Ibrahim Musa Gusau is confident that the Super Falcons will defeat England in the Women’s World Cup knockout phase.

Despite finishing second in Group B, the team secured their spot in the last 16 and is now set to face England’s Lionesses, who are considered favourites for the match. 

 

  • Nigeria, the first African team to advance to the knockout phase.
  • Scheduled to play against the Lionesses.
  • Gusau expresses confidence in the Super Falcons’ advancement.

Nonetheless, Gusau believes the Super Falcons have the potential to reach the quarter-finals.

Gusau highlighted the team’s achievement in emerging from Group B ahead of higher-ranked teams, emphasizing the NFF’s confidence in their long-term preparations.

He mentioned that England is beatable, just like Australia, but stressed the importance for the Falcons to seize any opportunities that come their way during the match on Monday in Brisbane.

For the game against England, the Super Falcons will have a different game plan, aiming to play for a win and secure their place in the last eight.

Gusau assured that the NFF will provide motivation and support to increase the team’s chances of advancing in the tournament.

This year’s Women’s World Cup marks the first time the Super Falcons have progressed past the group stage without losing.
