Senate President, Godswill Akpabio in a statement said the Red Chamber “categorically” decided not to allow Nigeria to militarily intervene Niger.

According to Akpabio, the Senate was very much concerned about the coup in Niger, but kicked against a military intervention, saying it is not the best route to restore democracy.

The former minister added that the Senate would rather focus on diplomatic and economic measures to pressure the junta to step down.
