Sunday Oliseh, the former Nigeria international, expressed disappointment at the Super Falcons’ exit in the round of 16 at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. 

The Falcons lost 4-2 to England in a penalty shootout after a goalless 120 minutes of football.

Despite Lauren James being sent off with three minutes left, the Three Lionesses held on and took the game to spot kicks.

Substitutes Desire Oparanozie and Michelle Alozie missed for the Falcons, while Rasheedat Ajibade and Christy Ucheibe scored.

Oliseh praised the players for their impressive display despite the defeat, showing pride in the “Extra Super” Falcons for their contribution to Nigerian football.

The best performance for Nigeria in the Women’s World Cup remains the 1999 edition, where the Falcons reached the quarter-finals in the USA. 

In the 2019 edition in France, the team made it to the round of 16 before losing 3-0 to Germany.
