President Bola Tinubu has appointed himself Minister of Petroleum.

Daily Report Nigeria reports that Tinubu followed in the footsteps of his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari.

Meanwhile, no official statement has been made by the Presidency on that note.

45 ministers who make up Tinubu’s cabinet were sworn into office on Monday by Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Taiwo Ariwoola.

While the President will head the petroleum ministry, he has appointed a former Senator, Heineken Lokpobiri to serve as the Minister of State, Petroleum Resources (Oil) and Hon. Ekperipe Ekpo Minister of State Petroleum Resources (Gas).

This was earlier confirmed by a former communications aide to Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, who said Tinubu is following after his boss and Olusegun Obasanjo.

Ahmad wrote on Twitter: “President Bola Tinubu is our potential Minister of Petroleum Resources. He will be following in the footsteps of former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Muhammadu Buhari, who occupied the post during their tenures.

“This time there are two junior ministers under the Ministry, a Minister of State for Petroleum and a Minister of State for Gas Resources.

Back in May, in am 80-page manifesto containing multi-sectoral policy options tagged, ‘Renewed Hope 2023 – Action Plan for a Better Nigeria,’ Tinubu had listed an eight-point agenda that his administration would vigorously pursue.

Top on his priority lists of action plans was national security, economy, agriculture, power, oil and gas, transportation and education.

He also outlined policy options for healthcare, digital economy, women empowerment, judicial reform, federalism, decentralisation of power and foreign policy.

The document also included programmes on decent wages for workers, manufacturing, naira stability and total transformation of the country.
