Pep Guardiola has indicated that Kevin De Bruyne might require surgery for his hamstring and is predicted to be sidelined for a span of three to four months.

De Bruyne sustained the hamstring injury during Manchester City’s opening match in the Premier League against Burnley, which concluded with a score of 3-0.

In the middle of the first half, the Belgian midfielder had to leave the game due to the injury.

Regrettably, he will be absent from the FIFA Club World Cup, as Manchester City aims to secure yet another trophy following their successful Treble win in the 2022/23 season.

“The injury is significant. We’re contemplating the possibility of surgery, which would result in several months of recovery.”

When asked about the timing of the decision, he disclosed:

“We’ll make the decision within the next few days.”

Addressing the worst-case scenario, Guardiola added;

“If surgery is necessary, it might mean he’s out for three to four months.”

Guardiola expressed his disappointment at losing De Bruyne for an extended period, emphasizing his unique qualities.

Nevertheless, he emphasized the need for the team to remain optimistic and explore the available alternatives during his absence.

“To begin with, Kevin’s injury is a setback and a major setback for our team,” he continued.

“Kevin possesses distinct attributes. While his absence can be managed for a game or two, dealing with his absence for an extended period is challenging for us.

“Nonetheless, we must maintain a forward-looking perspective and explore the various alternatives at our disposal.

“The current situation presents an opportunity for other players, and I am confident they will seize it.”
