Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has suspended about four doctors from practicing medicine in Nigeria.

The suspension of the doctors was announced by the MDCN Commission of Inquiry on Monday.

In a post on Monday on its social platforms, the MDCN said its inquiry commission has ordered the temporary suspension of the medical profession in Nigeria.

It read:

“Notices of their suspension have been communicated to them and relevant institutions to enforce this order.”

Names of the affected registered doctors were:

  1. Dr. Ejike Ferdinand Orji.
  2. Dr. Richard Chukwujekwu Okoye.
  3. Dr. Olalekan Olatise.
  4. Dr. Buliaminu Adebayo Adigun.

The aforementioned registered practitioners are not authorized to practice medicine in Nigeria until the cases against them have been decided by the Medical and Dental Disciplinary Tribunal.

MDCN Registrar Dr Tajudeen Sanusi also disclosed that the doctors were suspended last week.

Tajudeen said:

“I have not been briefed fully because I am not a member of the investigative panel but the panel is one of the disciplinary organs of the council and it carries out a preliminary investigation into alleged professional misconduct but when they conclude their investigation, the doctors are set free or the matter is transmitted to the tribunal.

“However, if the doctors constitute a danger to public health, the panel will suspend them and that was what happened. So, nobody can say anything about it until the tribunal is convened.”

MDCN was a statutory body responsible for investigating any case in which a licensed physician or dental surgeon was alleged to have engaged in professional misconduct.

The committee consisted of fifteen members, all of whom must be licensed physicians or dental surgeons.
