About thirty-five thousand farmers across Adamawa State have received training on modern farming techniques.

The training program was organised by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in partnership with International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA).

Azeez Oyeyemi, senior agronomist at IITA disclosed the program was titled “Feed The Future, Nigeria Integrated Agriculture Activity.”

Oyeyemi stated on Tuesday’s green field day for soybean farmers in the Yola-South Local Government Area of the state the farmers had been exposed to crop varieties including maize, rice, and cowpea.

Oyeyemi said:

“NoduMax is a pea-based inoculant ensuring that soybean’s symbiotic rhizobium bacteria are present, resulting in improved root nodulation and high rate of biological nitrogen fixation.

“Today, we demonstrated to the farmers the importance of applying it and SSP brand of fertilisers on soybean production in Yola-South LGA.

“They have seen the difference by themselves on the crops, those with Nodumax and SSP fertiliser, crop with only Nodumax and crop with fertiliser only.”

He stressed that that program aimed to support vulnerable populations to engage in farming activities that will improve food security, income, bumper harvest, and resilience among smallholder farmers in the state.
