Kano Police Recruit 50 Repentant Thugs as Special Constables
SHARE

About 50 repentant thugs in Kano State have been converted to police special constabularies after undergoing training.

The repentant thugs were drawn from Dala, Fagge, Ungoggo, Municipal, and Gwale LGAs of Kano State.

The state Commissioner of Police, Usaini Gumel, stated that the repentant thugs had surrendered themselves and promised never to engage in thuggery and other social vices bedeviling the state.

The Force Spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi clarified that the Special Constabulary were not policemen and not recognized as such by the commission and government.

Adejobi said:

“They are not policemen. They are repentant individuals who have been mobilized into Kano State’s constabulary scheme, a community-based initiative.”

The development has raised concerns among Nigerians. Some have questioned the wisdom of recruiting individuals with a history of violence into the police force. Others have praised the move as a positive step towards rehabilitating former criminals and reducing crime rates in the state.
