Ohanaeze Condemns Edwin Clark's Call to Remove Abia, Imo, Ondo from NDDC

Igbo elders under the aegis of Ohanaeze Ndigbo have condemned the recent call by Chief Edwin Clark to remove Abia, Imo, and Ondo States from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

Clark, while making call to President Bola Tinubu, explained that Abia, Imo, and Ondo States were included in NDDC “During that interaction with Mr. President (Olusegun Obasanjo), we went through the drafted Bill of NDDC, which he said he will later submit to the Attorney General of the Federation for necessary action.

“He informed us that Northerners were opposed to the establishment of NDDC, instead they also demanded Shiroro Dam Commission and President Obasanjo advised that we should accept the three non-Niger Delta oil producing states of Abia, Imo and Ondo states in order to have their added votes of the SouthEast and South-West legislators for the Bill to succeed.”

In response, Ohanaeze Ndigbo stated that the Elder Statesman and leader of the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF)’s call was “an affront to national cohesion, unity, and a promotion of ethnic bigotry.”

Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s response were contained in a statement signed by its Secretary-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro.

The group pointed out that Clark’s call for the exclusion of Abia, Imo, and Ondo States from the NDDC based on their geographical location and quantity of oil deposits was “not only misguided but also reeks of parochialism.”
