The Senate has unanimously approved the appointment of seven nominees of President Bola Tinubu as Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

These nominees included Mr Etekamba Umoren from Akwa Ibom, Mr Isha Ehimeakne from Edo, Barr Oluwatoyin Babalola from Ekiti, Mr Abubakar Ahmed from Gombe, Shehu Wahab from Kwara, Aminu Idris from Nasarawa, and Mohammed Abubakar Sadiq from Niger.

The confirmation of nominees follows Tinubu’s request for the Senate’s approval by the provisions of Section 154(1) of the Constitution.

Tinubu had previously appointed 10 new RECs for INEC, each serving a five-year term.
