France has announced that it will be returning $150 million loot linked to former Nigerian Military Leader, Gen Sani Abacha to Nigeria.

The French government stated that it made a commitment to repatriate the $150 million loot to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France, Ms Catherine Colonna, told a news conference that France would return the loot to Nigeria and start discussions with the Nigerian administration.

The discussion will be how to allocate the $150 million to development projects that will benefit the population, according to the priorities of the Nigerian government.

Special Adviser to the President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, on Friday, November 3.

Ngelale while quoting Tinubu said:

“Thank you for the good news on the return of Abacha loot. We appreciate your effective cooperation concerning the return of Nigeria’s money. It will be judiciously applied in attaining our development objectives.”

Check revealed the development is not the first time that France has repatriated funds linked to Abacha, back to Nigeria.

In 2014, France returned $500 million to Nigeria, which was part of the money stolen by Abacha.
