Governor of Niger State, Muhammed Umaru Bago has set up a State Refugees Commission with the sum of N500 million to cater for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the north-central state.

The governor disclosed this during a symbolic presentations to some of the 700 households beneficiaries of the relief materials from the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and IDPs held in Minna.

Bago said Niger State Refugees Commission will operate under the Ministry for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.

While decrying the huge number of IDPs in the state, the governor noted that the Commission would effectively address the difficulties faced by the IDPs.

Speaking further, Bago disclosed that the State Government will, from its reserve, distribute 13,000 bags of grains to the IDPs in the state.

He further gave assurance that the State Government will continue to do its best to ameliorate the sufferings of the IDPs.
