DTHA: Court Orders Rerun For Burutu Constituency I
SHARE

The Court of Appeal has declared the House of Assembly for election for Burutu Constituency I in the Delta State, inconclusive.

The court upheld the ruling by the State and National Assembly Elections Tribunal which ordered for a rerun in four units in the constituency.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared Alapala Ebitonmo of the All Progressives Congress as winner of the March 18 poll.

Passing judgment, the tribunal had ruled that the election recorded over-voting in certain units in Ward 4 and 7. The court subsequently ordered a rerun in three units in Ward 4, and one unit in Ward 7 in the constituency.

Reacting to the judgment by the appellate court on Wednesday, Alapala called for calm from his supporters, and expressed optimism towards reclaiming his mandate.

Taking to his official Facebook account, Alapala said;

“Re-run election declared by Appeal Court within 90 days. We are fully prepared for it. All my teeming supporters be calm and we will definitely reclaim our mandate.”

Alapala had defeated his closest rival, Asupa Forteta of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who was incumbent prior to the election.
