The Court of Appeal sitting in  Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja has affirmed the sack of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State.

DAILY REPORT NG recalls that a three-man panel of judges led by Justice Oluyemi Akintan Osadebay had on September 20, 2023, sacked governor Abba Yusuf by declaring 165,663 of his votes invalid.

Yusuf’s votes were then reduced to 853,939 while those of Nasir Ganuwa, his All Progressives Congress (APC) rival, stood at 890,705.

The tribunal court declared that the votes given to the governor were invalid because they were not signed or stamped by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Yusuf, not satisfied with tribunal’s verdict, approached the appeal court.

Meanwhile, delivering judgement, the panel of Justices of the apex court upheld the verdict of the State Election Petitons Tribunal led by Justice Oluyemi Akintan Osadebay, which earlier sacked Yusuf of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) on September 20, 2023 and declared Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the rightful winner of the March 18 gubernatorial poll in the State.
