Thirty-four family members lost their lives to an accidental bombing by the Nigerian Army on Sunday in Kaduna State.

The tragic incident occurred in Tudun Biri, Igabi Local Government Area of the state, where Idris Dahiru, a resident, revealed the devastating loss of 34 members of his family.

The unfortunate event resulted in the death of at least 85 villagers.

It was said that the military dropped the bombs during their celebration of Maulud, an Islamic event.

Dahiru said:
“Our annual Maulud celebration was shattered by unexpected airstrikes. The first bomb exploded without warning, killing innocent people, including women and children, some victims were torn apart by the blast.

“As we rushed to aid the injured, the jet returned, unleashing a second bomb, this time, many of those who had come to help were among the casualties.

“My family alone has lost 34 members in this tragedy. We have 66 loved ones receiving medical care at Barau Dikko Hospital.”

In response, the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Hadiza Balarabe, visited Islamic clerics to ease tensions, while Governor Uba Sani ordered a comprehensive investigation to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja has summarized to the relatives of victims while describing the incident as “very disheartening.”
