The Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals plant has procured one million barrels of Agbami crude grade from Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Limited (STASCO).
The procurement was disclosed in a statement by the President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote.
Dangote said:
“We are delighted to have reached this significant milestone. This is an important achievement for our country as it demonstrates our ability to develop and deliver large capital projects. Our focus over the coming months is to ramp up the refinery to its full capacity. I look forward to the next significant milestone when we deliver the first batch of products to the Nigerian market.”

STASCO, a major trading entity in Nigeria and globally, handles over eight million barrels of crude oil daily.
The STASCO cargo, comprising one million barrels sourced from Agbami, was transported to the Dangote Refinery’s Single Point Mooring (SPM) and discharged into the refinery’s crude oil tanks.
The initial batch represents the first phase of the planned six million barrels of crude oil supply to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery from various suppliers. It is expected to sustain the initial processing capacity of 350,000 barrels per day at the facility.
Subsequent cargoes will be provided by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) within the next two to three weeks, with the final shipment of the six cargoes coming from ExxonMobil.
The supply will enable the refinery’s initial operations and kick-start the production of diesel, aviation fuel, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), followed by the production of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
It was said that the milestone development will significantly address fuel supply challenges not only in Nigeria but also in other West African countries.
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery, designed to process 100 per cent Nigerian crude while maintaining flexibility for other crude types, has a daily capacity of 650,000 barrels.
It can handle various African crude grades, Middle Eastern Arab Light, U.S. Light tight oil, and crude from other nations.
Moreover, the refinery is poised to meet 100 per cent of Nigeria’s refined product requirements, including gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and aviation fuel, with surplus quantities available for export.
The Dangote Refinery was strategically constructed with two Single Point Mooring (SPM) facilities positioned 25 kilometers offshore.

These SPMs efficiently receive crude oil and facilitate the discharge of petroleum products through three separate SPMs.
Also, the refinery boasts an impressive capacity to load 2,900 trucks per day at its truck-loading gantries.
Dangote Refinery’s marine facility is entirely self-sufficient and equipped to handle the largest vessels globally. Furthermore, all products produced by the refinery adhere to the stringent specifications of Euro V standards.
In terms of environmental compliance, the refinery is meticulously designed to meet the requirements of various regulatory bodies.
It aligns with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guidelines, European emission norms, and the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) emission and effluent norms.
Moreover, it adheres to the standards set by the African Refiners and Distribution Association (ARDA).
Country Chairman of Shell Companies in Nigeria, Osagie Okunbor, said:
“We welcome the startup of a refinery that is designed to produce gasoline, diesel, and low-sulphur fuels for Nigeria and across West Africa and are happy to be enabling it.”
