Justice Joy Unwana, a judge at Oron High Court in Akwa Ibom State, and her driver who were abducted by gunmen, have been released.
Daily Report Nigeria had reported that Unwana and her driver were kidnapped on their way back from a court sitting.
Ini Ememobong, the Information Commissioner of the state announced the development in a statement on Saturday.
Reacting to the incident, Governor Umo Eno vowed to bring the masterminds of the abduction to justice.
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) including the Oron branch where the Justice serves as a judge, had protested the incident and shut down court proceedings.
Eno reassured Akwa Ibom residents of the government’s commitment to bringing the perpetrators to book.
According to Ememobong, Unwana appreciated the governor for his concern and efforts in rescuing her and her driver from the abductors.
She recounted her ordeal in the kidnappers’ den, praying that no one should face such a terrible experience.
