Nigeria vs South Africa: Delta APC Chieftain Dies Watching AFCON Semi-Final

Dr Cairo Ojougboh, a prominent Nigerian politician and member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chieftain in Delta State is dead.

Daily Report Nigeria reports that Ojougboh breathed his last just as a penalty was awarded against Nigeria during the Africa Cup of Nations semi-final match against South Africa on Wednesday.

Captain William Troost-Ekong had scored a penalty for Nigeria in the 67th minute, but Teboho Mokoena was later awarded a spot-kick.

The equalizer by Mokoena came after Nigeria believed they had secured a second goal through a tap-in by Victor Osimhen, the 2023 African best player.

However, the play was called back after VAR (Video Assistant Referee) alerted the Egyptian referee that South African player, Percy Tau had been fouled in the area.

Despite the intense match, Nigeria emerged victorious with a 4-2 penalty shootout, propelling the Super Eagles to the tournament final.
