The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) have issued a 14-day nationwide strike notice to the Federal Government.
NLC, and TUC’s action stemmed from the government’s failure to implement a 16-point agreement reached between it and the on October 2, 2023.
Leaders of the NLC and TUC stated their disappointment with the government’s apparent disregard for the suffering and hardship faced by citizens.
It insisted that despite efforts to maintain industrial peace, the government has shown little concern for the consequences of its policies.

The October 2 agreement aimed to mitigate the adverse effects of rising petroleum product prices and the devaluation of the naira, both of which have severely impacted the masses and workers in Nigeria.
In a statement, the labour unions made known their regret at resorting to such measures but asserted that persistent neglect of citizens’ and workers’ welfare left them no alternative.
Effective February 9, the two labor centers have issued a stern ultimatum to the Federal Government, demanding prompt adherence to the understanding within 14 days.
They stressed the urgency of the situation and stress the need to safeguard the rights and dignity of Nigerian workers and citizens.
