According to The Daily Mail, the International Football Association Board is preparing to introduce a new blue card in professional football as part of sin-bin trials, a significant change marking the first new card color in 50 years.
The tradition of red and yellow cards began in 1970, pioneered by English referee Ken Aston during the FIFA World Cup in Mexico. Since then, these cards have been universally adopted as a disciplinary measure for player misconduct on the field.
The announcement of the blue card is expected on Friday, with players facing a 10-minute removal from play for offenses like cynical fouls or dissent towards match officials.

This innovation will add a new dimension to player dismissals, with expulsion possible after accumulating two blue cards or a combination of blue and yellow cards during a match.
However, FIFA clarified that reports of the ‘blue card’ being introduced at elite levels of football are premature and incorrect.
