Delta Govt Allocates N15.7bn for Flood Control

Delta Govt Allocates N15.7bn for Flood Control | Daily Report Nigeria

The Delta State Government has allocated the sum of N15.7 billion in the construction of Phase III flood control measures in Warri, Effurun, and their surrounding areas within Warri South and Uvwie Local Government Areas (LGAs).

The project aims to enhance flood resilience and safeguard communities.

During a press briefing following the State Executive Council meeting, presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the State Commissioner for Information, Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza, revealed that Phase III will encompass critical locations such as Airport Road, Ugborikoko, Bendel Estate, and Ugboroke in Uvwie and Warri South.

Also, the Executive Council granted approval for an N600 million counterpart fund dedicated to the Sustainable Development Goals Conditional Grants Scheme for Delta State.

He said:

“We had a very engaging session at Exco, and above all Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the Exco took note of the hardship that Nigerians and Deltans are going through and he has resolved to make sure that he does everything humanly possible to put smiles on the faces of Deltans.

“One of the major projects approved today is the flood control measures in Warri/Effurun and Environs Phase 3.

“Phase 1 and Phase 2 were awarded long ago while Phase 3 entails Airport Road, Ugborikoko, Bendel Estate, and Ugboroke in Uvwie and Warri South at a cost of N15.7bn

“The second approval we got is the approval for the release of N600 million counterpart fund for the implementation of the 2024 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Conditional Grants and Schemes for Delta State.”

Prince Godwin Ejinyere, the Director-General of WUEDA, also shared updates on the project’s progress.

According to Ejinyere, Phase 1 has already been successfully completed, while Phase II is currently at 85 percent completion.

Furthermore, the DG added that the agency is actively devising a comprehensive flood control solution for the Warri Stadium vicinity.

Design work is underway for areas including Enerhen Community, Igbudu, and Odibo Estate, among others.
