Civil Servants Protest Over Unpaid Salaries in Cross River | Daily Report Nigeria

Civil servants in Calabar, Cross River State on Thursday morning, converged at the office of the Secretary to the State Government, Anthony Owan Eno, to demand their January salaries.

They stated that as of the February 15, the salaries remain unpaid, and the civil servants find the situation unbearable.

The civil servants express their dissatisfaction with the requirement to visit the SSG’s office merely to write down their names—an arrangement they deem unacceptable.

In a desperate call for action, they implore Governor Bassey Otu to intervene swiftly, as hunger is claiming lives.

The protest prompted the State Government to clarify that over 80 percent of salaries have already been disbursed.

The delay in the remaining payments results from a verification exercise conducted by the state authorities.

Deputy Governor Peter Odey, speaking in Calabar, sheds light on the situation.

Odey explained that some workers have been receiving multiple salaries, prompting the state government to undertake an audit and verification process for all MDAs and local government employees.

He stated that the Bassey Otu-led administration remains steadfast in its commitment to the People First Agenda.

The State Government acknowledged the challenging times and assures those affected that their delayed salaries will be paid promptly.
