The Lagos State Government has announced plans to relocate the popular electronic hub known as Computer Village from Ikeja to Katangowa in the Abule Egba area.
Dr Olajide Babatunde, the Special Adviser to the Governor on e-GIS and Urban Development, revealed the relocation during a joint inspection and enforcement exercise carried out by the Lagos State Building Control Agency in collaboration with various law enforcement and emergency management agencies.
According to Babatunde, the government aims to reorganize all markets in Lagos.
However, he added that the relocation isn’t limited to the Computer Village alone; other activities will also take place in the Katangowa market.

The relocation, he explained, aims to address environmental challenges arising from the rapid growth of the market in Ikeja.
The new market in Katangowa will be more than just a trading space. It will provide essential services, including schools, crèches, playgrounds, religious centers, hotels, storage facilities, and accommodations.
The goal is to regenerate, redevelop, innovate, and conserve, ensuring a greater Lagos rising.
Although the relocation was initially planned for 2017, it faced delays.
However, in 2023, the state’s former Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Wasiu Anifowose, confirmed that all arrangements had been made to relocate the traders, ultimately reducing traffic congestion caused by the market’s current location in a residential area.
