Mr Joseph Aloba, father of the late popular Nigerian musician, Ilerioluwa Aloba aka Mohbad have asked the Nigeria police to summon his late son’s wife to disclose what she knows about the death of his son.

On Wednesday, the family issued a press statement with this request.

Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023, and his death has been surrounded by controversy.

The police probed his death but the public was not satisfied with the results as those who were suspected to be involved in his death were still free.

The wife of the late singer recently stated that she had a lot of information about the death, saying he was harassed but the harassers in the music industry prevented her from speaking.

Aloba also filed a suit recently to call more witnesses to help unravel the cause of his son’s death.

In the application signed by his lawyers, Aloba named Ayobami Fisayo aka Spending; Boluwatife Adeyemo aka Darosha and Ibrahim Owodunni aka Prime Boy as witnesses to testify in court.

In addition, in the latest statement by the Aloba family, Mohbad’s father said Omowunmi’s testimony could also be important in revealing more details about the death.

The statement partly read, “We have learned that Omomunmi Adebanjo, the wife of the late Mohbad, has shared her knowledge of vital information related to his death.

“We urge the relevant authorities to invite Omowunmi Adebanjo to give her testimony and insights into this tragic event. We believe that her cooperation and testimony could be helpful in revealing the circumstances leading to Mohbad’s demise.

“We beseech you (the police) to prioritise this investigation and take quick action to discover the truth behind Mohbad’s death. The Aloba family and the public need closure, and justice must be served,’ the statement added.

Referring to another hearing at the coroner inquest coming up in a few days, the man said, “the chance is still there for you to go and tell them the truth you know.”

Regarding his grandson, Mohbad’s father said, “Since the issue of Liam Aloba’s paternity is in the public domain, especially on social media, this information will remain there for now and maybe forever.

“As a grandfather to Liam Aloba, I have the duty of protecting him now, and the future is in jeopardy if the issue of paternity is not resolved now, and it will hurt her and the son in the future. Anyone can call him any bad name which I will not want that to happen to him now or in the near future.

“Wunmi Adebanjo, as a mother to Liam Aloba too, it is my thinking and belief that you will not like a situation where, in the future, people will use or call Liam Aloba any unpleasant name.

‘Since she wants a court order to do the DNA, my legal team has approached the court in that regard, the suit has been filed.

“Her legal team should do the necessary thing whenever the court serves them by not delaying the process so that Liam Aloba, whether he is my grandson or not, deserves the right to a good life without any stain to his name and his existence on earth.

“If this is the only thing you can do to save him from future humiliation, please do it for him as a mother; let him have a peaceful life to live.”

Speaking about the paternity of her son, recently, Mohbad’s wife said, “The DNA issue has made me cry and hurt me. There has never been any doubt or discussion about Liam’s paternity until my husband’s death.”
