Bread Makers Terminate Strike Action | Daily Report Nigeria

After engaging in fruitful discussions with the federal government, the Bakers Association of Nigeria (AMBCN) has decided to terminate its strike.

AMBCN held “constructive talks” with officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, resulting in several key agreements.

According to a statement released on Wednesday evening and signed by its president, Mansur Umar, the union reached the following understandings with the Nigerian government:

  1. Immediate Export of Wheat: The union will facilitate the export of 25,000 metric tons of wheat to flour companies for processing and subsequent supply to bakers.

  1. Flour Production Plan Revision: Both parties agreed to revise the existing plan for flour production, exploring alternative sources such as cassava, potatoes, and sorghum.

  2. Support for Bread Bakers: An agreement was also reached to provide support to bread bakers through a program initiated by the Nigerian Ministry of Agriculture.

Recall that bakery owners in Nigeria had embarked on a strike due to the challenges posed by high production costs and material shortages.
