Hannatu Musawa, the Minister of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the iconic Nollywood actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu.

In a statement conveyed through her Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Nneka Anibeze, Musawa lamented the loss, emphasizing that it adds to an already distressing string of deaths in the entertainment industry.

The tragic news follows closely on the heels of another loss, that of Nollywood actor Sisi Quadri, making it a double blow to the industry within a span of 24 hours.

“I’m deeply shocked at too many deaths occurring at the same time. Mr Ibu was a household name who made families happy throughout his acting career.

“His death at this time is very unfortunate and a sad one for us all in the entertainment industry.

“We will surely miss him. May his soul rest in peace,” she said.

Reported by The Daily Report, the demise of the 62-year-old John Okafor (Mr Ibu) was confirmed by Mr. Emeka Rollas, National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, on Saturday. Okafor’s passing was attributed to a cardiac arrest, leaving a void in the hearts of many fans and colleagues alike.
