Several people reportedly lost their lives on Monday when a single-engine plane crashed in a city in the United States (US).

The crash happened near an interstate highway in Nashville, Tennessee, according to reports.

It was said that, the pilot, recognizing the severity of the situation, made an emergency call to John C Tune Airport around 7:40 pm.

The report pointed out engine trouble, and the pilot received clearance for an emergency landing. However, shortly afterward, the pilot radioed that the aircraft would not make it to the airport.

The plane met a fiery end, crashing into a grassy median just off Interstate 40, behind a Costco on the city’s west side.

Reports added that the crash site was approximately 3 miles (4.8 kilometers) south of the general aviation airport.

Meanwhile, the exact number of victims remains unknown, and authorities are diligently investigating the incident, including determining the plane’s origin.

Fortunately, no drivers on the interstate suffered injuries, and no vehicles or buildings on the ground were harmed.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration promised to conduct a thorough investigation.

The tragedy occurred about four weeks after another aviation disaster involving a helicopter.

The helicopter, carrying the late Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of Access Holdings Plc, Herbert Wigwe, his wife, and others, crashed.

Witnesses in vehicles reported seeing the aircraft as a “fireball” before it went down.

The Airbus Helicopters EC 130B4, registered as N130CZ, crashed near Halloran Springs, California, on February 9, resulting in the loss of all six people onboard, including the pilot and co-pilot.
