Oba Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, the Olubadan of Ibadanland has died at the age of 81.

Balogun had reigned for two years on the throne of his forefathers, having received the Staff of Office from Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on March 11, 2022.

Makinde confirmed the monarch’s demise in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sulaimon Olanrewaju.

Oba Balogun breathed his last on Thursday evening at the University College Hospital in Ibadan.

The Governor eulogized the late Olubadan, likening him to a towering figure, much like an Iroko tree.

Born on October 18, 1942, Olubadan ascended the throne of his ancestors two years ago, succeeding the late Oba Saliu Adetunji.

On Monday, the monarch thanked God for the privilege of two years of reign.

He also extended appreciation to the members of his advisory council for their unwavering support.

In a statement conveyed by his Personal Assistant on Media, Oladele Ogunsola, Balogun used the occasion of his second anniversary, which coincided with the start of the year’s Ramadan fast, to seek prayers for the nation and encourage love among adherents, aiming to alleviate stress during this period.

His two-year reign, he acknowledged, was a special grace bestowed upon him by his creator, one that he deeply cherished.
