On Friday, the federal government arraigned Bello Bodejo, the president of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore group, before a Federal High Court in Abuja.

The charges against Bodejo include allegedly establishing and unlawfully supporting an ethnic militia group called Kungiya Zaman Lafiya.

The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) filed the case, accusing him of violating the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

However, during the arraignment, Bodejo pleaded not guilty.

Justice Inyang Ekwo ordered that Bodejo be further detained in the custody of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), and the case was adjourned until May 27 for trial commencement.

His arrest occurred around 3 pm on Tuesday, January 23, at the Miyetti Allah’s Head Office in Tundun Maliya Cattle Market, Kilometre 22, Abuja-Keffi Expressway, Tundun-Wada, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

According to reports, his detention was linked to the recent formation of a vigilante group in Nasarawa State.

Despite calls for his release on bail, the federal government, represented by Ms Y A Imana, a lawyer from the Federal Ministry of Justice, firmly requested the court to reject Bodejo’s application for unconditional release.

The government stressed that the matter pertains to national security.
