The Dangote Group has achieved a major milestone in Nigeria’s petroleum sector by initiating the distribution of diesel from its state-of-the-art petroleum refinery located in Lekki, Lagos State.

The announcement, made on social media platform X, marks a pivotal moment for the conglomerate.

Recall that the launch of operations at the Dangote refinery promises to greatly reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported petroleum products.

According to the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), the landing cost of the refined product from the refinery is N1,250 per liter.

To ensure the availability of the product across the country, three prominent associations, the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN), Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), and Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN), have registered to distribute the product.

The Dangote Refinery, with a capacity of 650,000 barrels, is the world’s largest single-train refinery.

It began production in January, initially focusing on refining diesel and aviation fuel.

The refinery’s operations were kick-started following the receipt of six million barrels of crude oil from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd.

Reports indicated that the refinery can efficiently load 2,900 trucks daily through its truck-loading gantries.

Diesel is transported both by sea from the single point mooring (SPM-P3) and by land from the gantry at the Dangote Refinery.
