The former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello has been whisked away from his Abuja home by the current governor, Usman Ododo, amidst a heavy security crackdown.
Recall that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other security agencies attempted to arrest Bello, but were prevented by officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and armed men known as “Special Forces”.
The EFCC operatives had gone to Bello’s residence on Benghazi Street, Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, around 9:30 am on Wednesday but were met with resistance.
Later that day, Ododo arrived at Bello’s home with security operatives and youth supporters protesting the siege.

The residence was heavily guarded by EFCC personnel, police officers, Department of State Security agents, Counter Terrorism Unit members, and Bello’s private security team.
Photographs taken on Wednesday revealed the tense situation, with armed EFCC personnel surrounding the ex-governor’s home.
The reason behind the siege has not been confirmed. However, the EFCC had earlier dragged Yahaya Bello, his nephew Ali, one Dauda Sulaiman, and Abdulsalam Hudu before Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, in an amended charge in March 2024 over an alleged N84bn money laundering.
