Troops from the Nigerian Army, deployed in the North-East, have reported the successful rescue of Lydia Simon, a Chibok girl who had been held captive by Boko Haram terrorists for several years.

The Department of Army Public Relations issued a statement confirming that Simon, who was identified as serial number 68 among the abducted Chibok Secondary School girls, was freed along with her three children during Operation Desert Sanity III.

It was said that the operation took place near Ngoshe in the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

Simon, who is currently five months pregnant, hails from Pemi Town in Chibok.

In a separate incident, Nigerian Army troops operating in the North Central successfully ambushed and neutralized three terrorists on Tuesday, April 16, 2024.

The militants were on a mission to cause havoc, but their plans were thwarted by the swift action of the security forces.

It could be recalled that the plight of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls remains a pressing concern.

According to data released by parents, 271 students were kidnapped on that fateful day in 2014.

While 57 girls managed to escape shortly after the abduction, 103 were subsequently released through the intervention of the Federal Government.

Also, 20 others regained their freedom due to the efforts of the state government. However, a heartbreaking 92 students are still in captivity.
