The Nigerian government plans to boost economic growth and development by encouraging the production of vehicles made in Nigeria.

The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Doris Anite called on stakeholders in the automotive industry to work together to achieve this goal.

Anite believed that Nigeria has a large enough consumer base to purchase all vehicles produced and is looking to export Nigerian-made vehicles to other African countries.

The government is committed to creating an enabling environment for car manufacturing, and the Minister is urging the industry to play its part in making this vision a reality.

The Bank of Industry is also ready to support all participants in the industry with funding.

Also, the National Automotive Design and Development Council is encouraging component manufacturers to collaborate to help Nigeria achieve its automotive aspirations, create jobs, and reshape the future of mobility in Nigeria.

She said:

The question, therefore, is, how fast can you produce beyond the Nigerian markets? There is no reason why Nigeria cannot begin to export cars from Nigeria or other African countries.

“I am sitting down here and giving you all the necessary assurances that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has created an enabling environment to make sure that the auto policy kicks off. To make sure that we have the ability to produce our own cars in Nigeria.

“And I am also trusting that you will reciprocate by making sure that this vision and this mission happens. So, the ball is in your court.”
