Chess-a-thon: Tunde Onakoya Breaks Guinness World Record

Tunde Onakoya, a Nigerian chess master, has set a Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon.

Onakoya broke the previous record of 56 hours and 9 minutes held by Norwegian players Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad in 2018 by reaching the 57-hour mark.

According to a post by The Gift of Chess on X at 12:34 am on Saturday, Onakoya was determined to break the previous record and had been playing for 56 hours straight.

During his attempt, he was cheered on by multiple award-winning Afrobeat singer, Davido, and other Nigerian celebrities.
