Nigerian rapper Illbliss has taken a moment to remember his late colleague, Oladapo Olaonipekun, better known by his stage name Dagrin, who tragically lost his life in a car accident on April 22, 2010.

The rising indigenous rapper, Dagrin was just 25 years old when his promising career was cut short by the fatal auto crash. Despite his untimely death, Dagrin’s influence on Nigerian hip-hop has endured, leaving a legacy that continues to inspire new generations of rappers.

On the 14th anniversary of Dagrin’s passing, Illbliss paid tribute to his friend, sharing a photo of the late rapper on his X (formerly Twitter) account on April 24, 2024. Alongside the picture, Illbliss expressed his heartfelt respect for Dagrin’s impact on the Nigerian hip-hop scene.

“Keep Resting Bro!” Illbliss wrote. “Your legacy will never end. We remember you. We respect your colossal immeasurable contributions to Nigerian hip-hop. You inspired so many. Keep resting.”

Dagrin’s groundbreaking style and commitment to rapping in Yoruba helped pave the way for indigenous rap in Nigeria. His hits like “Pon Pon Pon,” “Thank God” (featuring Omawumi), “Kondo,” and “If I Die” became anthems, capturing the attention of fans and influencing countless artists who followed in his footsteps.

Illbliss’s tribute serves as a poignant reminder that Dagrin’s legacy continues to resonate, despite his life being tragically cut short.
