Her fame as a former basketball player and singer, along with her height, led to her appearances on Brazilian TV and shows and circuses across the country.

In her later years, she began to shrink, ultimately being overtaken by Rumeysa Gelgi, the current tallest woman in the world, who stands at 7ft 0.71in.

Her relatives confirmed that she had been struggling with health issues for years and passed away at a private hospital in Aracaju, Brazil.

As news of her passing spread, Aracaju’s mayor, Edvaldo Nogueira, declared three days of mourning in honor of the beloved Former Basketball Player and Singer.

Nogueira said:

I received the news of that Maria Feliciana had passed away with sadness. One of the tallest women in the world. I remember the first time I saw her when I was still a child. It was in Pao de Acucar where I was born. Her presence caused quite a star. My condolences to her family, friends and admirers. May God comfort their hearts.”
