The Minister of State Labour, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha has reassured workers that the new minimum wage will take effect on May 1, 2024, as planned.

Onyejeocha promised workers that they will not suffer any losses despite the ongoing discussions by the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage.

While addressing workers at the May Day celebration the Eagle Square in Abuja, the Minister acknowledged that the new national minimum wage document is not yet available but assured that extensive consultations are underway to finalize it as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) chairman Joe Ajaero had proposed a living wage of N615,000 for workers.
