Liberia President Appoints Nigerian-trained General as Top Security Chief | Daily Report Nigeria

Liberia’s President, Joseph Boakai has appointed Maj Gen Charles Johnson (retd.) as the Director of the National Security Agency, subject to confirmation by the Liberian Senate.

Johnson’s appointment follows his resignation as Minister of National Defence.

He has an impressive military background, having led the Armed Forces of Liberia as its Chief of Staff for six years.

The New Director completed one of his officers’ courses at the Nigeria Army School of Infantry in Jaji, Kaduna State, and is an alumna of the United States Army Command and General Staff College.

In 2014, he was promoted to Brigade Commander of the 23rd Infantry Brigade, becoming the first Liberian to hold the post of Brigade Commander in the AFL following the end of the Liberian Civil War.

He also served as Military Assistant to former Minister of National Defence, Brownie J Samukai Jr.

Johnson obtained a bachelor’s degree in Accounting at the United Methodist University in 2004.

His appointment as the Director of the National Security Agency is expected to bring about great improvements in the agency’s operations.
