Italy and Germany will each have five teams in next season’s Champions League.

This was confirmed on Wednesday after Borussia Dortmund beat Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final matchup. With this result, the Bundesliga secured the second spot in UEFA’s coefficient rankings for the season.

Serie A had already secured the top spot in the rankings last month.

This means that Serie A and the Bundesliga are now locked into the top two positions, making it impossible for the other competing leagues—England’s Premier League and France’s Ligue 1—to overtake them.

These extra places are awarded through the “European Performance Spots,” part of the expanded 36-team format for the UCL, recognizing the two leagues with the best average performance across UEFA’s three European competitions.
