A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja has found Mrs Ramat Mba, a mother of five, guilty of forging the signature of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s Chief of Staff, the late Abba Kyari.
Justice Ibrahim Mohammad convicted Mba on multiple counts of cheating and forgery, deferring sentencing until May 16, 2024, and ordered her remand in Suleja Correctional Centre.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) had arraigned her in June 2022 on a five-count charge, including cheating, fraud, and forgery.

The charges alleged that she fraudulently induced individuals, including a job seeker, to pay her large sums of money under false pretenses of securing employment with government agencies like FIRS, NASRDA, and ICPC.

During the trial, ICPC’s prosecutor, Hamza Sani presented evidence of Mba’s dishonest activities, including forging a letterhead and signature of the late Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari.
The forged letter requested the recruitment of three individuals by ICPC, but Kyari’s written correspondence distanced himself and his office from authorizing the letter.
Justice Ibrahim Muhammad convicted Mba on counts 1, 2, 3, and 5, related to cheating and forgery, while discharging her on count 4, which dealt with felony.
