Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has expressed frustration over being constantly compared to other female artists by overzealous fans. She mentioned that fans often claim new female artists are coming to take her “throne.”
Instead of seeing them as rivals, the ‘Water & Garri’ singer said she prefers to befriend new female artists, emphasizing that music is not a competition.
Savage shared these thoughts in a recent interview with BET.

She said, “Fans always try to pit me against other female artists. Any new female artist that comes up, they would be like, ‘Yo, she is coming to take her throne.’
“And I would go out of my way to make friends with them [new female artists] because it is not a competition. The real competition are the male artists. I was happy that Tyla, a female artists won the maiden Best African Music Performance category at the Grammys over the male nominees.”
