BREAKING: Senate Lifts Suspension on Abdul Ningi

On Tuesday, May 28, the Senate lifted the three-month suspension of Senator Abdul Ningi, who represents Bauchi Central and is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The suspension was initially imposed on March 12 due to Ningi’s comments during a BBC Hausa Service interview, in which he alleged that the National Assembly had passed two 2024 Appropriation Bills and that the 2024 budget had been inflated by N3.7 trillion.

The Senate’s decision to reinstate Ningi followed the consideration and adoption of a motion titled “Motion for the Unconditional Recall of Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi,” which was sponsored by Minority Leader Abba Moro (PDP – Benue South).

In his lead debate, Moro acknowledged that Ningi had been suspended for violating legislative rules and exhibiting misconduct and unethical behavior during the interview.

Moro, speaking on behalf of the Senate Minority Leadership, extended an apology to the Senate and urged reconsideration of Ningi’s recall as the senator representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District.

The motion was approved through a voice vote during plenary, presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
